A GROUP campaigning against a wind farm for West Ashton is holding a public meeting on Wednesday 20th June, at West Ashton Village Hall, starting at 7.30pm.
REG Windpower is proposing to install three wind turbines of up to 130m in height on Grange Farm, near West Ashton. The company has erected a 16m anemometry mast to measure wind conditions, and anticipate submitting a planning application for the wind farm in the autumn.
But the ‘Stop Grange Farm Wind Farm’ (SGFWF) campaign has raised concerns about the plans, saying that if Wiltshire’s first wind turbines are allowed to go ahead, more will follow. In addition, they are concerned about the visual, noise, and environmental impacts, while questioning the efficiency of wind turbines.
SGFWF says, “The meeting [on the 20th June] will be chaired by Cate Mack of the Campaign to Protect Rural England. It will include a presentation from SGFWF on the wind farm proposal at Grange Farm and allow plenty of time for questions and answers. On the panel we will have the chairman of a Dorset action group who have successfully defeated one wind farm application, but are in the middle of fighting their second application.
“The meeting comes at a time when West Ashton parishioners were canvassed for their views of the proposal and 85% have voted against; and the Jersey-based developer, Renewable Energy Generation, is actively seeking sites for its noise monitoring surveys in advance of its planning application. We look forward to seeing as many of you there as possible.”
