WESTBURY Leigh Primary School has recently commemorated Remembrance Day and then took part in activities to raise money for Children in Need.
The school reports, “As a church school, Remembrance is a special time and this year was no different. Mrs Pearce, collective worship lead explained, “As always, we wanted the school community to commemorate Remembrance Day, this year like most things, it was going to be a little bit different.
“The children showed great respect and sincerity on this poignant day and created some heartfelt prayers, beautiful poems, striking poppies and pieces of artwork to show their gratitude for all those who have died in service for their country. As a whole school in our class bubbles we watched Winston Churchill’s victory speech before reflecting during the 2 minutes’ silence.
“Isabella and Charli from Year 6 said, ‘Even though it was a victory speech it made us realise what that time was really like! And what everyone had gone through.’
“Following on from Remembrance, the school embraced Children in Need and the awesome work being undertaken through the generous fundraising of everyone across the country.
“The school was full to the brim with Pudsey Bears, painted faces, spotty clothing and lots of glitter and smiles. The children joined in with the final stages of the Joe Wicks 24-work out challenge too – there was no stopping them! Children and staff donated money to wear something ‘spotty’ for the day and know this will be put to good use in supporting children where needed.”
Mrs Grimsey, head teacher said, “It’s always an amazing day here, it’s great to see all the children and staff dressed up and we all love a bit of ‘sparkle’ and fun. We believe children have a voice and should use this to shape and change the world in which they live, this happens through reflecting back on history and thinking about the changes we can make to affect the future – well done Westbury Leigh!”
