Westbury Town Council has welcomed the news that the Environment Agency has extended the consultation period for considering an environmental permit for the proposed Westbury Incinerator (Permit Number: ERP/CP3803LV/A001).
The news has also been welcomed by the local campaign group WGAG / No Westbury Incinerator and local MP Andrew Murrison who are both urging people to respond to the EA consultation as part of their opposition to the controversial proposal.
The consultation will now close at 11:59pm on Sunday 21st February 2021.
The town council says, “The Environment Agency has told us that they wish to listen to the community’s views and remain transparent and open throughout the permit application process. They understand the current national lockdown will have implications for some people and may make it harder for them to have their say.
“Residents who recently received a postcard from the Environment Agency stating the original January closing date, should disregard this, as this was sent out before the extension was agreed.

“Westbury Town Council is currently considering its own response to this consultation and whilst we are always keen to hear the views of residents, we are not permitted to submit responses on behalf of residents.”
Local MP, Andrew Murrison, says he welcomes the decision by the Environment Agency to extend its consultation over controversial proposals by Northacre Renewable Energy Ltd for an incinerator in Westbury. The MP had written to the agency on 18th December to request the extension, citing new briefing material that was relevant.
He said, “The EA has made the right decision and reflected the high level of public interest in an application which I very much hope is unsuccessful. I would urge people to respond to the consultation by the new deadline.”
