Get set for a year to remember!

IT’S going to be a year to remember in Westbury as the town’s major events are returning in style. 

After over a year of cancellations, postponements, staying inside and social distancing, Westbury residents will be spoilt for choice for events in the months ahead.

A host of Westbury’s favourite events, with some new arrivals, are busy preparing to invite the community to finally reunite to celebrate, dance, sing, and have a good time.

Amongst the line-up in the town’s packed social calendar is a “bigger and better” Westbury Festival, the Westbury Lion’s White Horse Vehicle Show –  one of the biggest car shows in the South West, the Lions’ 10k run, the Christmas festival and lights switch-on, and the first ever Wiltshire Chilli Fest.

And over in Edington, the village’s music festival has announced that it will also be returning, with its first concert scheduled for June at the Edington Priory Church.

Speaking to White Horse News, Westbury’s mayor, cllr Mike Sutton, said, “Although too late for spring or early summer it now looks increasingly likely that Covid restrictions will be eased or maybe even eliminated by the beginning of July and we will be able to put on some events to celebrate a return to normality. 

“There will be so much to look forward to this year, and, like so many people, I can’t wait! 

“It will be so good to see the Festival back and I’m sure they will have a fantastic line-up as always and I’m looking forward to seeing the Lions Vehicle Show which I’m sure will become a firm favourite in the town’s calendar.

“In September, Westbury will be host to a chilli fest with stalls, a Mariachi, and a Samba band to liven up the day. 

“We will also judge who has grown the best chilli and crown that person the Westbury chilli champion. 

“More details can be found on the town council website. We are looking to make Westbury the ‘Chilli Capital’ of Wiltshire and have the festival as a regular event each year.

“The event will take place during the by now famous Westbury Festival and we hope this will lift spirits after the enforced year-long shut down.

“And it is also full steam ahead as we prepare and plan for the Christmas festival and the lights ‘switch-on’.”
