Waste collections move from Hills to new provider

Hills Waste Solutions is no longer responsible for Wiltshire Council’s household waste and recycling collections, with the service now being delivered by a new provider.

Wiltshire Council has moved towards a Local Authority Trading Company (LATC) model, with collections now delivered by Ubico, a company owned by local authorities which already provides environmental services across Gloucestershire and West Oxfordshire.

The Northacre Resource Recovery Centre in Westbury remains operated by Hills Waste Solutions, with the change only affecting the household waste and recycling collection service previously provided by Hills for eight years.

Wiltshire Council say residents will continue to receive the same collections as usual, with no changes to collection days, frequencies or crews.

Deputy Leader Cllr Mel Jacob said, “This change gives the council greater control and flexibility over how services are delivered, while maintaining a strong focus on providing reliable collections for residents and delivering value for money.

“Hills Waste Solutions provided Wiltshire’s household waste and recycling collection service from July 2018, and we would like to thank the company and its staff for their contribution over the past eight years, including the continuation of waste and recycling collections throughout the Covid pandemic, working with the council to successfully deliver improvements to kerbside recycling collections and maintaining high completion rates for scheduled collections.

“Residents will continue to receive the same waste and recycling collections as usual, and we’ve worked hard to ensure a smooth transition, including the transfer of experienced frontline staff who know Wiltshire’s communities and routes well.”
