A reshuffle of Level 5 football by the Football Association has moved Westbury United into the Hellenic Football League.
The move sees United part ways with the Western League, which has been their home since 1984.
It is hoped that the restructure by the FA will have a positive impact on a significant number of clubs including United, supporting them with reduced travel and costs, and providing greater opportunities for generating income via local fixtures.
In the Premier Division of the Hellenic Football League, United will compete with the likes of Calne Town and Corsham; and also Bradford Town, who have also moved from the Western League.
Club Chairman, Greg Coulson, told White Horse News, “We are sad to be leaving the Western League as we have a great relationship with the Board and all of the friends we’ve made at other clubs.
“But the FA’s decision to move us to the Hellenic League is the correct one when you consider the new teams coming into the Western League for next season, the travel would’ve been difficult for us.
“The move to the Hellenic League is exciting for the club, we’ll be joined by other Wiltshire teams, Bradford, Corsham and Calne, all great clubs who we have a good relationship with, these games are great for the club and fans and we’re looking forward to seeing some bumper crowds.
“I’ve already spoken to the Chairman of the league and he’s delighted to have us onboard, their procedures for club administration are slightly different to the Western League so I’ll be working hard behind the scenes with our club secretaries Chris and Vikki to make sure we’ve got all the information we need to make it a seamless transition.”
