A WESTBURY art and crafts shop will host the debut exhibition of a mum who has returned to painting after studying art as a teenager.
SpaceCraft at 24-26 Maristow Street, a workspace for local artists and makers which sells their handcrafted goods, is displaying Sarah Christie’s “Be Curious” exhibition from 24th to 31st July. On Friday 23rd July, from 6.30pm to 8pm, all are welcome to the opening night to ‘meet the artist’ and take a first look at the paintings.
SpaceCraft was established in October 2020 by a group of makers looking for a space where they could work and then sell their products. It stocks handcrafted pieces by 32 local creatives including art and crafts, fragrances, jewellery and stained glass.
Sarah, a retail assistant who lives in Warminster, said, “I studied art in my teens but it fell by the wayside. Prior to lockdown I took a career change from being a personal trainer to re-exploring a more soul filling craft. It reignited my passion for art and painting and I haven’t stopped for over a year.
“It began by painting and selling themed wooden boxes for clients, from Alice in Wonderland to Bing Bunny. I then progressed to canvas and now paint medium to large scale commissions and anything that comes to my mind.
“My style is a little different and features mostly nature, usually things I find when out walking, quirky animals and emotionally provoking paintings. This is a proud moment for me to get to a point where I am confident enough to exhibit my work and accept constructive criticism.”
