ALMOST £6,000 was raised for the Royal British Legion (RBL) at the Remembrance Day service, with organisers delighted with the turnout and support from Westbury residents.
Nearly 2,000 people marched to the cenotaph on November the 11th to pay their respects to the fallen, and organisers were impressed with the community involvement.
Norman Fenton, the Westbury RBL secretary said, “We were really impressed with the turnout this year! We walked down for 11 o’clock on the 11th November, a few days before the remembrance service, and we were blown away with how many people came to this. On Sunday, we all marched through Westbury down to the cenotaph and there had to be at least 2,000 people there all coming together to remember the sacrifice so many have given.
“It was so good to see the young people getting involved as well! We have a great relationship with the cadets and it was good of them to help out and grab collections, as well as making sure it was a good day for everyone involved.
“Our largest income for donations came from the collection boxes in Morrisons, so again thank you to the collection team in there and Morrisons for hosting us – we managed to get near enough £3,000 from just the one supermarket.”
