WESTBURY Area Network (WAN) members say they have been delighted with the initial response to their Christmas appeal for food bank donations.
To help boost contributions, volunteers will be joining forces with the team at Morrisons on Tuesday 13th December for a food drive between 8.30am and 12.30pm.
Morrisons customers will have a chance to meet WAN volunteers and find out more about their vital work in the community, as well as make donations in person to the food bank.
A full list of suggested items is available via the WAN Facebook page, but alongside the basics, items that could make a real difference include Christmas puddings, chocolates and sweet treats, crackers, Christmas cards, festive napkins and stocking fillers – especially unopened gift sets and new toys.
Additionally, WAN will be distributing ‘warm packs’ to the most vulnerable throughout the winter, as rising energy costs impact on people’s ability to heat their homes. Warm packs will include items such as hot water bottles, blankets, soups, hot chocolate, hand warmers, and warm gloves, so donations to help complete these packs are also very welcome.
Throughout the festive season, extra donation points will be available at Aldi Westbury, Lidl Westbury, Morrisons (including grab bags), Crosspoint, All Saints Church, West End Baptist Church, Fairfield Farm College, White Horse Health Centre and the Westbury Community Project.
Volunteer drivers needed!
As WAN continues to extend support to more vulnerable members of the community, the team are urgently looking for volunteer drivers to help deliver food parcels and collect donations from hubs around Westbury. Anyone willing to help out during the festive season and beyond is invited to contact WAN on 07780 072 619 to discuss the specific requirements.
