ORGANISERS of a local pet food bank say they are there to help pet owners in the area who may be struggling to feed their pets due to financial pressures.
While located in Trowbridge, the food bank covers Westbury and the surrounding area as well and is available to anyone who may be struggling financially. If you are in need of any pet food items, contact their Facebook page directly at ‘Trowbridge and surrounding area pet food bank’ to arrange to pick up the items.
There is also the opportunity for items to be dropped off in Westbury if you cannot get to Trowbridge – contact the page for more information on this.
Drop off points for donations can be found in Trowbridge at Nature’s Sanctuary and DW Money in town. Donated items can also be dropped off in Westbury but the organisers have asked for people to contact the Facebook page directly so someone can pick these up.
Sam Hadley is the organiser of the pet food bank and she said that she set it up as a response to the cost-of-living crisis.
“I kept hearing about how people were struggling to feed themselves with the cost of everything rising and I couldn’t help but think that some people may be finding it difficult to provide their pets with what they need,” said Sam.
“Some people have found themselves in a difficult financial situation through no fault of their own, and while there is plenty of support for the people, we want to make sure the pets don’t go ignored.
“Many people may have spare food or treats as their pet has either passed away or changed diet and if they’re still in date this can be really valuable to others.
“We have someone who could potentially drop-off items in Westbury for those in need that really can’t get to Trowbridge, but this cannot be the case for everyone as this is a volunteer run group.”
