WESTBURY Area Network (WAN) volunteers have continued their work to support the most vulnerable in the community throughout the cost-of-living crisis over the winter months, by distributing warm packs alongside parcels of essentials from the food bank.
The distribution of packs has been made possible thanks to a generous grant from Wiltshire Council, with each pack containing a hot water bottle with cover, warm hat, scarf and gloves, and a cosy blanket or throw.
To add a cheerful and personal touch to the packs, WAN teamed up with the Westbury Yarn Bombers group, who created a collection of hand-made covers for the hot water bottles, in an array of eye-catching colours and patterns.
Marisa Befoh of Westbury Yarn Bombers said, “We are really grateful to WAN for the opportunity to help with the warm packs project, in what is proving to be a very cold winter indeed. A number of volunteers contributed designs including Odete Madeira, Valerie Madgett, Vicki Brodie, Lisa Denny, Ida Kujabi-Cruse, Lani Hall and Allison Thorne. We really admire the work WAN are doing and hope to continue to offer our help where possible.”
Caroline Coker, WAN trustee said, “This winter has been especially hard, as rising energy bills mean many of the most vulnerable in our community have been struggling to keep their homes warm. We hope that the warm packs we have distributed have brought some comfort to people at this time, as demand for support from the food bank continues to rise. In addition to distributing packs, we continue to direct people towards Westbury’s invaluable network of warm spaces, as the community works to support those most in need.”
