The team of volunteers at Westbury Area Network (WAN) have reported an egg-cellent Easter with generous donations to the food bank received from across the community.
As the cost-of-living crisis continues, demand for food bank parcels is higher than ever and in March, the WAN team distributed a total of 137 parcels to individuals, couples, and families in the area. A total of 1832 kg of food was donated to the food bank, including a large number of Easter eggs, to make sure all recipients received an extra special treat.
The donations make an important contribution to ensuring that vulnerable people in Westbury and the surrounding villages receive support when they need it most.
WAN trustee Caroline Coker said, “As ever, we are enormously grateful to everyone who has donated food and other essentials to the food bank recently. The demand for food parcels continues to be exceptionally high and every donation helps us give much needed support to those most in need.
“Special thanks this month go to donors of Easter eggs – Morrisons of Westbury and our super fundraisers at Fairfield Farm College. These Easter eggs were included in pre-Easter food parcels and distributed amongst our recipients to bring a little seasonal cheer to people who might not otherwise be able to enjoy any chocolate treats. Students at Dance-Craft also organised a collection of items for the food bank as part of their end of term dance showcase, showing once again the generosity of young people in Westbury.”
Donations of food are welcome on an ongoing basis and can be made at the WAN headquarters at Westbury Community Project during opening hours for the Food Bank and Community Fridge. Additionally, donations can be made at points around the town including at All Saints’ Church and Crosspoint.
