White Horse News’ Person and Group of the Year awards are back and it’s time to get your nominations in!
The awards will recognise the person and group who have made a real contribution to the community in 2022.
It’s been an exciting year for Westbury and with so many people doing great things in their community, we need your help to find them.
For the Person of the Year, you can nominate any person who lives or works in the Westbury area who you think has contributed most to the local community. Perhaps your nominee has been involved in a local charity, helped run a sports club or offered voluntary services which have benefitted the town.
For the Group of the Year award you can nominate a group, organisation or committee; any group that does work in the Westbury area. Don’t worry if not everyone from the group comes from Westbury, what’s important is that the work of the group benefits the town in some way.
Editor of White Horse News Ian Drew said, “This is a chance to nominate someone or a group who deserves recognition for their outstanding contribution to Westbury over the past year or who has had a big impact on life in the town.
“There are so many people and groups doing fantastic work, more than ever during these difficult times, and these awards are a real opportunity to celebrate and acknowledge their efforts.”
Nominations can be made by emailing news@whitehorsenews.co.uk or via Facebook Messenger stating your name, address and contact number with your nominee’s name and why you are nominating them. Nominations must be received by 1pm on Monday 9th January and the winner of each award will be chosen by a panel of local representatives and announced in our next issue.
Last year, and for the first time in the competition’s history, Westbury’s Person of the Year award was given posthumously to Mike Parker, the former chairman of Westbury and District Link Scheme, for the years of service he gave to the scheme which arranges transport for elderly or disabled people living locally who are unable to use public transport.
Last year’s Group of the Year was awarded to all those in Westbury’s vaccination drive at the White Horse Health Centre and Shaunak’s Pharmacy for their efforts in keeping the town updates with their vaccinations.
