A NEW pollinator project is being launched to plant more wildflowers for bees and butterflies, to increase local biodiversity.
The project will involve planting small wildflower meadows to create wildlife corridors. These are designed to create nectar rich habitats which provide food and shelter for pollinating insects such as bees and butterflies.
The main areas that have been identified for the project are Leigh Park Way, Slag Lane, Edward Street, Avebury Close, and Bitham Park.
Funding for the project has come from the Wiltshire Council’s Westbury Area Board, but Westbury Town Council will be responsible for supporting the project in the future, and the project will rely on volunteers to help water the plants.
The town council say that they plan for the project to be implemented between early March to early May and they will approach volunteers through their social media sites in the future.
This project is intended to expand and continue throughout the town of Westbury and its surrounding parishes through a pollinator corridor project in the future. This will connect the villages of Dilton Marsh, Hawkeridge, Heywood, Bratton, and Edington. More information on this is to follow in a future edition of the White Horse News.
