The Westbury community will be coming together to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III, with a variety of events in the town and surrounding villages, for people to enjoy over the coronation weekend, 6th – 8th May.
Westbury’s events include a showing of the coronation on a large screen at Soisy Gardens, hosted by Westbury Town Council, followed by a special Market Place concert featuring the Bon Jovi cover band From Jovi, and an Oasis tribute band, Cidernova.
Westbury Lions are also hosting a senior citizens’ tea party to celebrate the coronation, and Leigh Park Community Centre is inviting people to take part in a community big lunch. All Saints’ Church is hosting a special service to mark the occasion, and they are also taking part in the national initiative, Big Help Out, which encourages people to use the one-off bank holiday to volunteer in their local community, by asking people to lend a hand at the church.
Mayor of Westbury, cllr Sheila Kimmins said, “On Saturday 6th May, the day of the Coronation of King Charles III, Westbury will be holding a live screening of the processions and the coronation from 10am till 3pm in Soisy Gardens at the side of Westbury Library.
“This will give everyone the opportunity to come together to view this once-in-a-lifetime event, as a community. For those who may have been on their own, it’s an opportunity to come and have company to talk with, discuss what we are all viewing and have fun.”
There are also plenty of events for those in the surrounding villages as part of the coronation celebrations, including a Westbury and District Choral Society concert at Edington Priory happening this week, as well as a well dressing and picnic in the village, to take place during the coronation weekend.
In Bratton, residents have been invited to take part in celebrations at Bratton Jubilee Hall and further celebrations will take place at Bratton Church Institute on Bank Holiday Monday, 8th May.
