A High Street bus stop in Westbury has been given a historical makeover as part of efforts to bring vibrancy and interest to the town centre.
Westbury Town Council has added Perspex panels at the bus stop, which now feature a large vinyl showing the High Street as it looked in the 1960s, along with artwork representing the Vision for Westbury project.
Town Engagement and Development Officer Ben Griffiths said the Vision for Westbury sub-committee discussed ideas for bringing more vibrancy and interest into the High Street. The bus stop was identified as an ideal location, as it is maintained by the town council.
“Following its recent refurbishment, it was agreed to adorn the Perspex with a colourful vinyl that also reflects the town’s history. The picture used is of the High Street from the 1960s, showing the view from the opposite end of where the bus stop is located,” he said.
“This has been enhanced and complemented by artwork representing the Vision for Westbury, which wraps around the bottom sections of the bus stop, combining old and new. This is the same artwork featured on the mural on Edward Street and in the window next to Butcher Bros.
“It brings colour and vibrancy just in time for summer and the various events planned for 2026.”
The project was funded through the External Services budget, which is dedicated to improving bus stops around the town.
