THE team at All Saints’ Church Westbury is asking the local community to help keep the oldest building in Westbury, the Grade 1 listed church in the centre of town, fit for purpose for this and for future generations.
The team at All Saints is seeking volunteers to help out with practical odd jobs around the church such as gardening, litter-picking, DIY repairs, cleaning, polishing and tidying.
Rebecca Harris, rector at the White Horse Team Ministry, said, “We have much to offer at All Saints and are looking for the support of our local community to help maintain our Grade 1 listed building. We receive no state funding, and this large building is maintained by our faithful church members.
“We are currently looking for volunteers to help us with practical jobs in the church and churchyard, to help keep our building open and available to our local community, and those who visit from near and far. Practical jobs such as gardening, litter-picking, DIY repairs, cleaning, polishing and tidying. There’s plenty to do!”
If this is of interest, the church is holding some working parties over the summer months where all ages and abilities are welcome to come and join the team. The dates for the working parties are Saturdays 24 June, 15th July, 29th July, 5th August and 9th September. All working party times are from 9.30am to 1pm.
Rebecca added, “Bring any suitable gardening tools if you like working outside, or other materials will be provided. Coffee, tea, squash, biscuits and cake will be available. We look forward to seeing you!
“If you have not visited our church yet, you would be very welcome to come and see what a beautiful treasure it is, and a great gift to our community in Westbury. We are open most days from morning till late afternoon, and visitors are welcome to come and discover more about the history of the church and the architectural features of the building.
“Our stained-glass windows are stunning, and we have information about them for you to find out more. Many people enjoy popping in during the day for a moment of peace and tranquillity and a time of reflection. Others enjoy visiting the churchyard in this tranquil setting, walking their dogs and visiting the graveyard.”
