WESTBURY’S Oktoberfest has given out the money raised from its event last year.
Over 200 people attended the event at the Horse and Groom and helped raise hundreds of pounds for local organisations. Westbury Beavers and Brownies, St John Ambulance, and Westbury Leigh and Bitham Brook primary schools were all presented with cheques.
Organiser Bruce Hewitson said, “Many thanks to the companies and private sponsors who contributed to the event. It was a very successful night and we have now distributed the funds raised from sponsorship of the barrels.
“Tents were the priority for the 1st Westbury Beavers. St John Ambulance Youth has decided to put the money towards training aids for the group.
“An exciting 10-pin bowling evening was the choice for 1st Westbury All Saints Brownies.
“Westbury Leigh Primary School will put the money towards stage lighting for its performing arts.
“David Ross, head teacher at Bitham Brook Primary School told us that the money would go towards activity stations to be put alongside the all-weather path in the play area.
“David said that they were very grateful for the donation and fully endorsed the idea of giving to local Westbury good causes. This sentiment was echoed by the other good causes.
“The organisers of the 2016 Oktoberfest would like to thank the sponsors and the 200-plus people who attended the ‘Fest’ and made it so successful. Finally we would like to thank The Horse and Groom for their support. See you all later this year!”
