A WOMAN from Westbury, who has overcome Hodgkin lymphoma, continues her fundraising efforts walking 55km along the south coast, to further raise money for Teenage Cancer Trust.
Last year, Chloe Todd and her boyfriend Tom Atwell took part in a ‘Tough Mudder’ challenge raising £640 to add to the on-going total of £1,200 that Chloe has raised since receiving the all-clear.
This year Chloe, again alongside her boyfriend Tom and this time with her dad Andrew Vaughan, have set themselves a new challenge. They will be taking part in The South Coast Challenge 2019 on the 31st August. It is a 55km walk in one day, starting in Eastbourne, following the coast around to Hove, just past Brighton.
Chloe explained, “I received an email to say that Teenage Cancer Trust is now reaching 100% of young people across the South West which is fantastic!
“However, they are still only reaching half of young people with cancer in the UK and we need to fund more nurses in local hospitals to make sure everyone is reached.
“I was diagnosed with cancer myself back in September 2016, and I think my experience would have been very different without the Bristol unit for young adults. Since I was given the all-clear in January 2017, I have been doing as much as possible to raise money for this charity and a few other well-known cancer-related charities. I try to take part in different events every time I fundraise and this is a step up from what I have done so far!
“Back in 2009 I took part in the Bronze Award Ten Tors Challenge with my friends, as a team from Matravers School. The distance was 35 miles, roughly the same as this event, but was completed across two days, not one.
“I mentioned the challenge to my dad and he was very keen to join me! Tom took a little more persuading but I think he’s looking forward to it now. I think we’ll manage to do some training together! The goal is to get to complete a few 35km walks before the event.
“I’m personally looking to hit a fundraising target of £550, £10 per km, but I’m hoping we can raise over £1,500 between the three of us. I’m currently not looking forward to it because of the distance, but once the donations start rolling in and I start my training, I’m sure I’ll become motivated and excited to take part. It’s all for charity after all.”
