Conservative Andrew Murrison has been re-elected as the MP for the South West Wiltshire constituency, which includes Westbury, following the recent General Election.
The MP has represented the area since 2001 and retained his seat with a majority of 3,243 votes. Labour came in second place in this election, as they did in 2019, but managed to significantly reduce the Conservative majority from 21,630 votes.
The 2024 election result was: Andrew Murrison (Conservative Party), 15,617 votes; Evelyn Akoto (Labour Party), 12,374 votes; Garry Irvin (Reform UK), 7,840 votes; Bret Palmer (Liberal Democrats), 7,205 votes; Fay Whitfield (Green Party), 2,243 votes; James Ward (Independent), 448 votes and Thomas Culshaw (Independent), 441 votes.
Speaking at the election count at County Hall, Andrew Murrison said, “I’d like to thank the people of South West Wiltshire who have done me the honour of returning me to Parliament for the seventh time. And to them, I say I will do everything in my power to serve them over this term to the best of my ability and with all my energy and strength. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
