THE Westbury Lions Club is actively seeking new members and volunteers as they gear up for one of their major annual events – the Christmas Float.
As the club strives to maintain its position as the largest in the district, they are calling on local residents to help escort Santa around the town this festive season and to support other community initiatives throughout the year.
“Joining the Westbury Lions offers a host of benefits, both personal and communal,” said the club’s president, Heather Blackley. “One of the greatest rewards is the opportunity to be part of a group that makes a real difference in the local community.”
“As a member, you contribute to meaningful projects that directly benefit those in need, whether it’s supporting local families, schools, or charities, or organising events and fundraising initiatives that channel resources back into these causes,” Heather explained. “This sense of purpose and service is incredibly fulfilling and provides members with a hands-on way to give back to their community and improve the lives of others.”
Beyond the charitable work, joining the Westbury Lions also offers opportunities for personal growth and social interaction. “Members often form strong bonds through shared experiences, creating a sense of camaraderie and friendship,” Heather said.
“There are also opportunities to develop valuable leadership and organisational skills by taking on roles in event planning, fundraising, and community outreach,” she added.
“Our parent organisation, Lions Clubs International, provides a wide range of courses to help members develop their skills in various areas. Lions offer a supportive environment where members can collaborate on projects, network with like-minded individuals, and even gain recognition for their contributions.”
With the Christmas season approaching, the Westbury Lions are particularly keen to recruit volunteers for the Christmas Float, but they also welcome those who wish to contribute throughout the year.
