Residents in Westbury are urging Wiltshire Council to address the persistent potholes on their streets, which they say have caused significant damage to their cars.
Locals from Green Lane, The Tynings, and Warminster Road have voiced their frustrations, citing ongoing issues with road defects.
One resident explained, “We are once again complaining to Wiltshire Council about the awful potholes in Green Lane. We want the road closed, if necessary overnight, to repair it properly – not just patched up as it has been in the past.
“I’ve had to balance my car wheels three times in the past four years, and now there’s a knocking sound that needs to be fixed. I believe it’s all due to the potholes, which are absolutely awful.”
Using the My Wiltshire app, the resident has reported the potholes to the council and has shared screenshots of her reports from 2022 to 2025 with the White Horse News.
She is encouraging others on Green Lane, The Tynings, and Warminster Road to report the potholes as well. “Loose chippings have been used to fill the potholes in the past, but that’s not been a long-term solution. Heavy rain just washes the gravel away,” she said.
The resident added, “The more of us who complain, the more likely they’ll listen and finally fix the problem.”
Wiltshire residents can report potholes, drainage issues, and fly-tipping using the MyWiltshire app.
Samantha Howell, Director for Highways and Transport at Wiltshire Council, said, “We have received reports of potholes in Green Lane and The Tynings but are not in receipt of any outstanding reports for Warminster Road following completion of the recent resurfacing in the vicinity of Chalford area. The potholes meeting our defect criteria between Green Lane and The Tynings have been repaired on an interim basis pending permanent repairs being undertaken by our Bobcat in the next few months.”
