Developers are preparing to submit fresh plans for a major housing development on land off Storridge Road, after previous plans were refused three times by Wiltshire Council.
Gladman Developments is proposing up to 165 homes, along with public open space, play areas and recreational walking routes. Earlier plans, which have been submitted over the years since 2017, were for 200 houses.
The site has also been the subject of long-running opposition from residents, supported by Westbury Town Council, who have raised concerns over the impact on local services, including schools and healthcare provision, the site being outside Westbury’s settlement boundary, the impact on air quality through increased car use, and possible road safety issues.
Previous applications were refused by Wiltshire Council and a planning appeal was dismissed in 2024 after concerns were raised about noise impacts from the nearby West Wilts Trading Estate and the suitability of the location for housing.
Despite this, Gladman says it has worked to address earlier concerns and has refined its latest proposals.
The current proposal includes 40 per cent affordable housing, with more than half the site set to be retained as public open space. Plans also include a community orchard, parkland and a children’s play area. Access would be taken from Storridge Road
Gladman is currently carrying out public consultation ahead of submitting an outline planning application.
