LOCAL sportsman, Jake Coward from Dilton Marsh, has won the junior category of the National Time Trial Series for the second year running.
Jake has now been awarded a scholarship to pursue his dream as a professional cyclist.
Jake attended The National Time Trial awards in Lincolnshire – organised by the Road Time Trials Council – where he was presented with his prestigious winner’s trophy on Saturday 18th January.
He won the national title following his results throughout the season. Jake notched up four wins in the five qualifying races.
He has been awarded a scholarship from Cycling Time Trials to help fund his racing and is currently looking for further sponsorship in order to maintain his cycling equipment and ensure he can maintain his competitiveness.
Jake left sixth form at Kingdown Sports College in Warminster last year to pursue his sporting success. In 2013 he rode for Rapha Condor Junior Team but at the end of the year he was invited to join the Belgian junior team, VZW Jong Wielertalent Vlaamse Ardennen and he will be racing for them across Europe in 2014.
Jake said, “I’m really excited to have won the award for the second year running. It’s an honour to have raced against the best time triallists in the country. Hopefully it will help towards my ultimate dream to become a professional cyclist”
Paula Coward, Jake’s mother said, “This is a huge achievement, so congratulations to him for his performance.”
