FORthe last 24 years Age Concern UK have run their charity shop in Edward Street, opposite the Morrison’s store.
Sadly, the doors of the shop were closed for the last time on 29th March ahead of a move to a new shop on Westbury High Street.
Run by one paid member of staff and five volunteers, the Edward Street shop had become an institution to many Westbury people and Age Concern are hoping the new shop will be just as popular.
Just before the closure of the shop, assistant manager Michelle Tilley and volunteer Adrian Sledge were asked, why the shop was closing, and they replied that it was simply for financial reasons; mainly the cost of the lease, as it is a big shop, but also because they are no longer taking as much money as they were.
Michelle and Adrian admitted that the location of the current shop was not the best as it was difficult to see from outside, whereas the new one, being in the centre of the High Street, should get much more in the way of passing trade.
Michelle thanked the people of Westbury for the donations of goods they have made over the years, and asked that people continue to make their donations to the new shop – clothes in good condition, books, bric-a-brac and small electrical equipment etc. They are able to carry out PAT and function testing on small electrical goods.
Michelle and her staff also wanted to thank all their loyal customers who have supported the shop over the years. They asked that the people of Westbury would continue to support this worthy cause, and make it a new beginning with a new location.
