Issue 461 – Andrew Murrison re-elected as MP

ANDREW Murrison will continue to represent the people of Westbury, having been re-elected in the general election on May 6th.

Dr Murrison, who has been the Conservative MP for the area since 2001, was re-elected with a 51.7% share of the votes cast. Following boundary changes, he will sit as the MP for the newly-formed South West Wiltshire constituency, which includes Westbury.
Dr Murrison studied medicine at Bristol (MD, MB CHB) and public health at Hughes Hall, Cambridge (DPH). He served for 18 years as a medical officer in the Royal Navy, leaving in October 2000 as a surgeon commander, and was recalled in 2003 to serve in Iraq.
Selected for the West Wiltshire constituency of Westbury in September 2000, he was elected in June 2001.
In November 2003 he was appointed to the Conservative front bench as a health spokesman and as defence spokesman in July 2007.
The other results were Lib Dem, Trevor Carbin, 14,954 (30.5%); Labour, Rebecca Rennison, 5,613 (11.5%); UKIP, Michael Cuthbert-Murray, 2,684 (5.5%); Independent, Crispin Black, 446 (0.9%).
