Westbury company in running for three care awards

A company in Westbury that provides home care services has been shortlisted for three awards.

Lifeline Homecare on Commerce Park is in the running for three awards at the 2014 Care Awards hosted by industry organisation Care Focus.

The 10-year-old business provides personal care support to people across Somerset and Wiltshire, helping to make living at home easier.  Its services start with everyday help, such as doing the weekly shop, washing up, or visiting the doctor.

The company has been shortlisted for Care Organisation of the Year in the South West, with two members of staff shortlisted for further awards; Elizabeth Joyce for Outstanding Care or Support Worker and Shelley Lawless for the Quality Dementia Award.

Emma Gifford-Pike, managing director of Lifeline Care said, “We are really proud of our team, this is the third year running that they have been nominated.

“It’s often the little things that make life easier, and that’s why we help people with day-to-day tasks like shopping and cleaning.

“When people are thinking about care options, starting with the more simple tasks is a good way to test the water – and build vital trust with those providing the care.”

Emma has suggested the following introductory tips for those thinking about care options: She said, “It’s important to check that the organisation provides the kind of support you’re looking for. Take the time to research different care organisations – pick up the phone and speak to them, and arrange a meeting to see if the fit is right.

“It’s also vital that the person requiring care, whether it’s yourself or a relative, is familiar with the carers and their methods. Developing a good rapport between the carers and the person requiring support is fundamental.”

Emma stressed, “Using home care services does not need to mean loss of independence.  For many, having daily help with the ordinary things means it’s easier to carry on living comfortably at home.”

For reassurance, Emma also suggests checking for accreditation. She said,  “Professional and regulatory bodies such as the UKHCA and Care Quality Commission (CQC) provide further advice, and the CQC undertakes regular checks on care providers – the results are available on its website.

“Finally, it’s important to determine what sort of home care arrangement is really needed – something the care agency should be able to provide a free initial assessment on, if you’re unsure.”

Care Focus aims to provide excellence in the care sector by offering advice and guidance on a range of subjects including legislation, regulation, planning and development and recruitment.

Claire Waddon, CEO of Care Focus (South West) CIC added, “We have had representation from all over Somerset and each and every one of the finalists are truly wonderful people. The heart-warming stories of how the high levels of care support and compassion they offer makes such a difference to other peoples’ lives are humbling.”

Lifeline Homecare will find out if it has won the respective awards at a ceremony held in October.  The company’s services cover south-west England, for people of all ages and levels of care needs in the home.
