Westbury Lions 10k is hailed a huge success

WESTBURY Lions Club’s annual 10km race was hailed a huge success with more runners than ever before.

The run took place on Sunday 12th October, starting with a Zumba warm-up before the runners took on a 6.2 mile loop from the White Horse Country Park. 132 athletes turned out for the morning race, making it the Lions Club’s best attended yet.

Club president Nigel Coward said, “This year’s run went well and we’re very happy with it. It’s a good event for the club, and to see over 130 people turn out was wonderful. It’s nice that we’re starting to recognise some regular faces as well; to know that the community continues to support us is really encouraging. We raised over £1,200 for the club, which will all go back into the Westbury community.

“As well as everyone who took part, we’d like to thank Garston Veterinary Group for sponsoring the trophies, Andrew Hoddinott from Avon Valley Runners for helping with the timing, and Maria Gonzales who provided the  Zumba warmup in the morning. We’ll soon be planning next year’s event, and are considering adding  a shorter route as well as the full 10km, to encourage even more people to participate. ”

The race was won by Ryan Kestle from Newquay Road Runners club, who finished in 35:41 minutes, and the first of the ladies to cross the line was Jo Mumford. The full results can be seen at www.westburylions.org.uk

All money raised from the Westbury Lions 10k will be distributed by their welfare committee, which works to recognise worthy causes and recipients in the local community.
