WESTBURY’S newest campaign group has launched a petition to save the hospital buildings, and members will be in the High Street collecting signatures this weekend.
Sensible Thinking on Patients (STOP) held their second meeting recently, and are now taking to the streets to spread their message. They will be in Westbury High Street from 3pm on Saturday 25th April collecting signatures from members of the public who wish to support their campaign.
Group member Erica Watson said, “We will be holding a peaceful non-political event to highlight the proposed sale of our hospital site for housing.
“We will have a petition for supporters to sign so that the strength of feeling in the community is made clear to those who would prefer that we lose a valuable community asset.
“Come and support us! We look forward to welcoming you, and please spread the word.”
STOP is a protest group which has been started to try and stop the sale of the Westbury Community Hospital site. They believe the buildings have more worth as a healthcare location than as homes.
The new group is formed of local members of the Royal British Legion, League of Friends, and the long disbanded Save the Hospital group.
Following the announcement earlier this year that the NHS is planning to sell Westbury Community Hospital to property developers, STOP has become intent on preserving the hospital buildings to be used to provide healthcare for Wiltshire people in the future.
Their event on Saturday will support the South West NHS’s day of action being held the same day from 11am at The Shires, Trowbridge.
