BED-LAM reigned in the town centre as Westbury’s Big Bed Pub Push got under way on Sunday 17th October.
So far over £1,000 has been counted, and with the total set to rise considerably once sponsorship money has come in, it is hoped that the fundraising total could top £2,000.
12 teams took part to raise money for Bristol Children’s Hospital Intensive Care Unit, while spectators turned out to support the participants.
Teams started at the Castle Inn and made their way through the town with one person on the bed at all times, stopping and drinking at eight pubs along the way, before finishing up with food at The Angel.
Competitors were invited to come along in fancy dress and use their imagination to come up with a “bed”. As a result, alongside beds and cots, teams turned up with a bin, a pirate ship, and even a coffin. Fancy dress was order of the day with participants in pyjamas competing alongside other characters.
The event was organised by Westbury couple Dale and Kerry Plummer, as the unit cared for their son Finley after he was rushed to hospital in August when he was just 7 days old.
The couple say they are delighted with how well the event went. Kerry said, “It was brilliant, absolutely brilliant. The support we had was fantastic.
“I’m so pleased. I wanted to raise £1,000 but we seem to have smashed that, so everything’s much better than we expected.
“I’m so happy I can’t really express it – it will really make a difference to the children and other families.”
Westbury RFC were among those who put in a team, having held an event the night before which raised £300 for the cause.
