CHILDREN and staff at Bratton Primary School have been busy over the past month marking Breast Cancer Awareness Month and National Poetry Day and holding a yoga day and Harvest Festival celebration.
Staff chose to come to the school dressed in a pink theme last month to support Breast Cancer Awareness month as the cause is, “Very close to our hearts at Bratton Primary.”
“We all hoped to help increase awareness and spread the word on the importance to check your bodies and to raise some funds to donate to research,” said the school. “The staff have all donated via a collection for Cancer Research.
“Thank you again to all the amazing school staff for their wonderful pink outfits, and to Mr Leighton, our talented weekly guitar teacher, for fully embracing the pink theme – a sea of pink across the playground was a joy to witness! When united and supported as a team, positive things can happen!”
The school also marked National Poetry Day which saw children from Antelope class get involved by reading the poem ‘A Classroom Speaks’ by Josh Seigal and used it as inspiration to write their very own poems, entitled ‘Bratton Primary School Speaks’.
The school added, “They then performed these poems in front of the rest of the class. Staff at Bratton Primary School love to encourage a joy of reading, and we hope this becomes a lifelong joy for the children!”
Children also enjoyed a yoga day which saw each class enjoy a zen yoga session under the guidance of the friendly instructor from Karma Life who recently visited the school.
The school said, “The children and staff each had their own yoga mat and were taken through a series of calming and stretching exercises. During the session techniques such as breathing, yoga poses, relaxation and visualisation were experienced.
“It’s a real pleasure to be able to offer these additional sessions to our children and staff and provide tools which are vital to help control emotions, stay relaxed and healthy. This lovely experience will be repeated each term for all the children and staff to enjoy!”
Pupils also took part in a Harvest Festival which saw food items donated to support those in need locally.
The school added, “We also want to say a massive thank you to everyone from the school community who kindly donated items at the school’s annual Harvest Festival Celebration. We were really overwhelmed with the generosity of items donated. School staff have delivered the donated goods to the Westbury Food Bank, with staff super grateful for the wide variety of items inside the bags. These items will now be distributed to families in the local area.”
