A PARENT from Fairfield Farm College will play 12 hours of golf at the White Horse Country Park next month to raise money for the college’s floodlight appeal.
Dave Stockley, whose son is a student at the college, will tee off at 7am on Tuesday 16th and begin a 12-hour golf-marathon which will see him play the nine hole course seven times, 63 holes in total, to raise money for Fairfield Farm College’s floodlight appeal.
Dave said, “It all came about after I went to the college for my son’s parents’ evening. They have such fantastic facilities, in particular the new Multi Use Games Area which was recently installed. It’s a really brilliant asset to the college but the only problem is, they don’t have any floodlights, so the students can’t use the facility in the late afternoons/evenings between September and March which is a real shame. So I had a think about how I could help them raise the money, and thought golf! The college is fantastic, all the staff are wonderful and the facilities are great; my son loves it, so I wanted to do something for them.
“I’ve nearly hit my £640 target but of course I will be still accepting sponsorship, the more I can raise for them the better.
“It’s certainly going to be a challenge but I’m really looking forward to it. A few of the students from the college are going to come down to see me play and for the last nine holes, the Junior Captain at Westbury Golf Club, Tony Adams and my dad Karl Stockley are going to play with me.
“You can’t really prepare for 12 hours of golf, but I’ve been out walking a lot more, cut down on drinking alcohol and I completed a gruelling 27 holes at Bournemouth Golf Course last week. The support of those who come along to watch will push me on and knowing that I’m doing it for a good cause will help keep me going.”
