Frome Musical Theatre Company is inviting the community to join them for ‘A Night at the Musicals’ in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Frome Memorial Theatre.
This one-night-only musical extravaganza is a fundraising event for the theatre, which is known as a significant and special venue in the town, run entirely by volunteers.
Chairman of Frome Musical Theatre Company, (FMTC) Andy Tawse, said, “Frome Musical Theatre Company, formally F.A.O.S, are proud and privileged to have called the Frome Memorial Theatre our home since 1925. We have continued to perform at this great venue ever since, with a musical in May, a traditional family pantomime at Christmas and, more recently, a youth section showcase, Spellbound, in August.
“When we were asked to support the centenary celebrations marking this momentous occasion, we were, of course, delighted. If you haven’t got your tickets for this fundraising event, please don’t leave it too long, you won’t want to miss out.”
The cast is made up of around 50 familiar FMTC faces, including a few you may not have seen on stage in a while, notably Humphrey Barnes and Derryn Street, who will be starring in several numbers from past FMTC shows.
The concert is jam packed with songs from massive musical hits such as Hamilton, Six, Waitress, Come from Away, Les Misérables, Dear Evan Hansen, Beauty & the Beast, The Phantom of the Opera, My Fair Lady, Fiddler on the Roof, Pirates of Penzance, Shrek, Sister Act and many more.
Musical director and vocal coach Teresa Isaacson, said, “The cast has been working hard to bring you the most enjoyable evening of music. Featuring wonderful company numbers that you will know and love, as well as from new musicals that you may not know as well but will hopefully give a flavour of how the future of musical theatre within our company may look.
“We are so fortunate to be able to showcase the vocal talent of some of the most accomplished local amateur theatre soloists. But most of all, the evening will be a very special celebration for the theatre that we are so lucky to call our home. The theatre is the most fantastic asset to the town, and it gives so many performers the opportunity to do what we love, while bringing an exceptionally high standard of amateur theatre for audiences of Frome and beyond to enjoy. Please come and support this exceptional cast and celebrate this wonderful theatre with us.”
The company’s youth section recently performed Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to full houses at the Memorial Theatre and will be reviving a special number from the show for the concert.
Frome Musical Theatre Company is also busy rehearsing for their annual family pantomime, Sleeping Beauty, which runs from 28th December to 4th January at various times.
This concert is a Frome Memorial Theatre fundraising event to support the running and upkeep of the building, helping to keep it in good shape for at least another 100 years.
Tickets are available from the Frome Memorial Theatre box office, which is open Monday to Saturday 9.30am to 1pm. Alternatively, call 01373 462 795 or visit www.fromememorialtheatre.org.uk
