From November, Westbury Town Council will have a small number of pear, plum and fig trees to give away to residents free of charge, on a first-come, first-serve basis.
These will be available to collect from The Laverton, in line with their planting season.
Cllr Jane Russ, chair of the council’s climate emergency committee said, “The planting of trees is an important tool against the climate emergency. What could be more lovely than giving people trees to plant, and not just any trees – fruit trees!
“This is an initiative which we know has worked really well in the past years and the town council is delighted to be doing it again.”
This initiative follows on from the last couple of years when the council has given away a small number of apple trees in the autumn, for residents to plant in their gardens in response to the climate emergency.
