CELEBRATIONS are high at Westbury Rugby Club as the team, volunteers and supporters congratulate Gareth Vaughan on winning Westbury Person of the Year.
News spread fast around the club that Gareth ‘Foggy’ Vaughan had been awarded the White Horse News Person of the Year award.
T-shirts were made in his honour and first XV player, James Catley-Day spread the word on local radio stations. James spoke to Graham Rogers at BBC Radio Wiltshire about the current success at the club and chairman Gareth Vaughan’s award win.
During the interview James said, “Foggy is a volunteer, he dedicates his time, energy and his money to the club. He is a real leader of the club and a father figure to a lot of the boys and we certainly wouldn’t be where we are today without him.”
Gareth himself was also interviewed alongside the mayor of Westbury, Mike Sutton during Graham Rogers’ show last Thursday.
Comments online have said how well Gareth deserved the award and people are glad he is being recognised for his community effort.
The team has now been labelled ‘a small team with a big heart’ as they continue their unbeaten run in both league and cup. The team now face four tough cup games to be in with the chance of playing the national cup final at Twickenham.
