A twist of fete

AS the weather warms up communities across Westbury have been setting up shop at a number of fetes, fayres, and picnics.

All Saints held the annual Westbury Parish Church Summer Fair, organised as usual by John and Mary Harris.

All Saints’ Pam Clark said, “The fair went very well; the weather stayed fine so people passing through the churchyard stayed and investigated all the stalls and bought their favourite goodies.

“Many people climbed the tower and had a good view of the town, and enjoyed the choir singing in the church.

“Children (and adults) climbed into the tractor, including our mayor in his new robes!  A good sum of money was raised for church funds.”

Bratton Church Fete was held on Saturday 27th June, and saw stalls and games set up at the Church Institute. Tea, cake, and ice cream were on offer and Bratton Silver Band played.

Lucy Scott from the band said, “What a pleasant sunny afternoon we had at Bratton Church Fete!  Opened by Lady Veryan Moore, the fete was very traditional with  stalls and included bric-a-brac, books  and plants; games such as ‘Guess the weight of the cake’ and ‘How many sweets in the jar?’, and as it was a church fete, ‘Guess the weight of the Bible’!

“School children danced and Bratton Silver Training Band, supported by a few members of the main band, performed with their musical director and trainer, Mark Gundry. The training members of the band are improving all the time and many people commented on how much they enjoyed their performance.”
