Wow – what a year it has been at Westbury Juniors!
Headteacher Richard Hatt reports, “Firstly, our school has grown with the addition of a new Complex Needs Resource Base and playground area. The new building provides a wonderful base for our children with additional needs and the playground has enhanced our PE lessons too.
“All staff are committed to providing the best possible education for our pupils and we have had a jam-packed year to make our learning as fun as possible. Some of our special events include theatre companies visiting the school, Maths Fun Day, a visit from the science dome, Safer Internet Day, World Book Day, St. George’s Day, a World Cup-themed sports day and each year group has also enjoyed special science days, where the children carry out all sorts of experiments.
“As a school, we have worked hard to increase our participation in sports competitions and have taken part in netball, swimming and football tournaments, as well as basketball and trampolining workshops. We even had a Staff Vs Year 6 football match at the end of the year, cheered on by the whole school!
“Once again, our Year 6 children worked incredibly hard in their Key Stage Two assessments in May and we were very proud to see that our results were above both local and national average again.
“We have had fun out of school too. Year 3 visited Charmouth as part of their topic on rocks and fossils. Their favourite part of the day was ice-cream and dipping their toes in the sea!
“Year 4 enjoyed a trip to Carymoor as part of their topic on sustainability. They had a great day exploring where our rubbish goes.
“Year 5 visited the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford whilst studying Egyptians where they looked at mummies and learned all about the process of mummification.
“Year 6 enjoyed a day at Hampton Court as part of their topic on the Tudors. They loved seeing where Henry VIII once roamed and turning the meat on the enormous spit in the kitchen!
“We are ending 2018 with each year group performing their Christmas show to parents and friends.
We wish all Westbury Junior School families a restful Christmas and look forward to another great year in 2019.”
