A WOMAN who lives in Australia is searching for family ancestors, who she believes lived in Westbury from the 1600s.
Sue Wallbank, who lives in Tasmania, has traced her family tree back to the 1600s, following the line of her family, the Newmans, who lived in Westbury.
Her great-great-grandfather, Henry Barker Newman, was the licensee of The Angel Inn in Westbury in the early 1850s before emigrating to Australia in 1855. His wife, Sarah Jane Philpott, and family owned the Green Dragon in Market Lavington.
Sue said, “Following back the line, I have found Newmans in Westbury in the 1600s. Not all family members emigrated and I am hoping I may be able to get in touch with any descendants still in the area.”
If you have any information, or believe you are a descendant you can contact Sue on swall@aapt.net.au
