A LOCAL woman has shaved her head for charity, with rugby player Matt Banahan lending a hand to help with the event.
Shirley Trim decided to take on the challenge after her sister was diagnosed with breast cancer. Her sister-in-law is also recovering from breast cancer, and she explained that she also lost a friend eight years ago to the disease. Shirley already had £1,500 pledged before her hair was cut. Matt Banahan, who plays for Bath Rugby and England in international rugby union, made a guest appearance to help shave Shirley’s hair, and there was also a raffle to help boost her fundraising total.
The RAOB was among those who made a donation, and member Mike Storey reports, “It was a very large turn out, with standing room only, and at 8 o’clock the whole process started with Matt Banahan making the first cut. The crowd enjoyed the fun and a raffle was in full swing.
“I think it takes bravery and dedication to submit to such a public event and should be lauded. Well done Shirley!”
