A FIVE-year-old girl from Westbury was recently awarded a Blue Peter badge after she wrote a letter into the tv show about her frustrations with littering!
Allegra Lang litter picks around the town to help keep Westbury tidy and she is now encouraging others in the local community to pick up rubbish to make the town a better place to live.
Allegra may be young but her mum Gemma says that she has always been passionate about the environment. She recently joined Westbury Town Council’s community litter pick with her mum and she is now encouraging more local people to do their bit for the local community.
“If you keep Westbury tidy, people will want to have picnics in parks,” said Allegra. “Litter picking is so important because if you do it you are helping the environment. Other people should join in with the town’s litter picks so the animals don’t get sick – they might even die! I joined the last community litter pick and we collected hundreds of pieces of litter.”
Gemma added, “Allegra is really interested in wildlife and I think she wants to be like David Attenborough when she grows up. Her pet peeve is seeing litter on the floor as I think she understands just how damaging this can be for animals and the environment.
“She took her interest a step further when she wrote some of her frustrations down in a letter to Blue Peter – she was over the moon when she found out she had won a Blue Peter badge and she made sure she wore the badge proudly when we took part in the recent litter pick.
“She is still so keen to pick up any rubbish that she sees that she asked me to buy her some bin bags that she could keep in her rucksack so she can pick stuff up when she is out and about. I’m so proud of her!”
Keep an eye on the Westbury Town Council Facebook page for information on when the next community litter pick is taking place.
