THIS weekend will see runners lace up for the Bratton Hilly Run, a challenging 11km charity race through local villages.
This year’s run takes place on the morning of Saturday 9th May, starting at Bratton Jubilee Hall at 11am.
The race was started 19 years ago by the late Roger Broberg, who used it to raise money for the local primary school. Donations are now made to the Motor Neurone Disease Association; and the Bratton Jubilee Hall committee run the event in memory of Roger.
The route is 11km through lanes near Bratton and Edington, and boasts miles of steep hills with rewarding views at the top. The event last year saw almost 100 runners tackle the course, and was won by Avon Valley Runner Peter Veleski in 45 minutes 52 seconds.
Runner Kathy Kinsey said in 2014, “Bratton Hilly race is such a happy event, I love it. The hills seem to get a bit steeper each year though… funny that! It is good prep for some Cornish coastal and Cotswold hills ahead.”
Registration time on Saturday 9th May will be from 9am to 10.30am at the Bratton Jubilee Hall, where the race will start at 11am. Entry costs £10 in advance or £12 on the day. There will be trophies for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd male and female, as well as for the winners in each category: M40+, M50+, M60+, F35+, F45+, F55+. There are also race souvenirs for all finishers.
