Bratton WI celebrated its 95th Anniversary in 2025 with a packed programme of talks, visits and other activities.
Highlights include talks on the history of ice-cream, signatures and how to spot a forgery, pampered pets in Jane Austen’s era, celebrating the 80th Anniversary of VE and VJ days, and a visit to Iford Manor Gardens near Bradford on Avon.
Members also meet in between monthly meetings to discuss books, make crafts and undertake local walks. The craft group has been particularly busy contributing to the work of two charities supporting marginalised women. They have been knitting blankets for Hamlin Fistula UK, a registered charity dedicated to the treatment and prevention of childbirth injuries in Ethiopia and making reusable period pads for refugees and vulnerable people around the world to end period poverty for the Pachamama Project.
We hope that our branch will continue to thrive next year. With talks planned on how chocolate is made, poisonous plants, canal boat painting and a demonstration of chair yoga, there should be plenty to keep our members entertained, informed and inspired. We are also planning to play our part in the WI’s national campaign; Bystanders can be Lifesavers, by organising a first aid demonstration for the village in the spring.
Bratton WI meets at 2pm on the first Tuesday of the month at Bratton Church Institute and are always happy to welcome new members from the village and surrounding areas.
