Local athlete, Diane Hier, has returned to Westbury with a bronze medal following her success in the ETU Middle Distance Triathlon Championships in Ibiza despite torrential weather.
Diane, who takes part in triathlon and running events across the world including the Ironman World Championships last year in Hawaii, competed in the ETU Middle Distance Triathlon Championships on Saturday 27th October for The GB Age Group Team.
With a time of 03:56:38, Diane tackled a 1900m swim, 90 km bike ride, that was cut shorter due to weather, and a 21km run, finishing in third place for her age category K 55-59.
Diane said “I am thrilled to have won a bronze medal at the ETU Middle Distance Triathlon Championships.
“It’s a privilege to have qualified and race in The GB Age Group Team, but to win a medal is beyond my expectations.
“The race started with a sea swim around Island de las Ratas and back onto the beach to transition. The bike discipline was next, which had been shortened due to bad weather and a delayed start, causing concern for lack of daylight hours.
“To finish the race was a half marathon around some of the beautiful historic buildings of Ibiza.
“Huge thanks to my coach, Paul Ryman, and to all my friends and family for the endless support they so willingly give.”
