BUSINESSES in Westbury are being encouraged to become ‘dementia friendly’ to support those in the community living with dementia and their carers.
BA13 Community Area Partnership, on behalf of the Westbury Area Board’s Health and Wellbeing Group, launched Westbury’s Dementia Friendly Town plan in May last year. Working with Alzheimers Support, the White Horse Surgery and other town organisations and individuals, they plan to help make sure everyone living with dementia in the town is enabled to participate in their own community, as well as possible, for as long as possible.
The group is encouraging more businesses and organisations in the town and surrounding area to undertake actions that are aimed specifically at people living with dementia, continuing to make them feel able to participate in their community.
They say, “We would be pleased to welcome any town business or organisation who wants to be part of the action plan to contact us so we can sen you the Dementia Alliance form, where you pledge your commitment to making Westbury a more dementia friendly community.
“All of the shops who signed up to the Safe Places Scheme several years ago are encouraged to take part in the training of their staff to help accommodate those with dementia. Those who take part in the training will receive a sticker for your window saying, ‘we are dementia aware’.
