Campus and carol singing will be top of the agenda when the Westbury Area Board meets on Thursday 12th December.
Pupils from Westbury Junior School will be adding a seasonal flavour with their Christmas songs, before the meeting at the Laverton gets to hear the latest on the consultation into where Westbury services could be sited in the future.
Local people have been voting on which of three options they prefer. These range from a single site campus to two and three site campuses. The latter options would utilise current council buildings including the library and the swimming pool. The consultation ended on 30th November and people attending the area board will get the first view of how it went.
Members of the Campus Operations Board – the community group that has been spearheading the consultation – will provide a brief overview of the consultation process, the total number of responses received and the split between options one, two and three.
A detailed report will be presented to the February meeting of the area board when area board councillors will decide which option to recommend to the Wiltshire Council Cabinet.
Area board chairman, cllr Russell Hawker said, “This is a very important decision for Westbury as the resultant campus of new or improved buildings will play a major role in our community.”
Other items of community interest in Thursday’s meeting include a report on the tackling of the recent spate of graffiti in the town, the latest on Westbury’s newest train service, and an update on the wide range of transport projects agreed by the area board’s transport group. These range from funding the installation of lighting on two well-used footpaths, a project to help fund the replacement of the bus shelter at the health centre with a more substantial one, along with extra crossing points and signage in the town.
The area board will also be considering approving more than £13,000 worth of grants to benefit community projects from play facilities for pre-schoolers to computer equipment for pensioners. Among the projects up for consideration is the Crosspoint welcome centre which needs funds for specialist debt training for their volunteers.
Everyone is very welcome to come to the area board and find out what is going on in their community, ask questions and take part in the meeting. It takes place at the Laverton in Bratton Road on 12th December, and starts at 7.00pm with refreshments from 6.30pm.
