A GROUP of volunteer motorcyclists are surprising frontline workers with care packages to say thank you for their work during the pandemic.
South West Volunteer Riders has been collecting donations from communities across Wiltshire, Somerset and the Bristol area – to create care packages for staff at hospitals, care homes, ambulance, fire and police stations and Covid-19 vaccination hubs. And there are plans in the near future for the group to make deliveries to teams at the local vaccination hubs and hospital staff.
Member of South West Volunteer Riders, Mark Birkett said, “These care packages show support and thanks to frontline workers who are going out of their way, putting themselves at risk, to help other people during these difficult times. It’s often a surprise when we show up, and people are thankful, surprised, humbled – we witness a whole range of emotions.
“And for me, it’s nice to give something back to frontline workers that are doing, not only their jobs, but so much more than they normally would do in their working life – its good to be part of something that is giving back to the community.”
The contents of the care packages can vary, sometimes including sweets, snacks, toiletries, and make-up. And South West Volunteer Riders is appealing for donations so they can continue their efforts. To enquire about donating, call group member Jude Shorrocks on 07305 075500.
