This year’s Big Pledge challenge is now underway, helping people across the county to get more active.
The Wiltshire Big Pledge: London Calling, organised by Wiltshire Council, started today (5 June) and encourages people of all ages and abilities to take part in a wide-range of challenges to get more active and healthy.
So far more than 9,000 people have signed up to the challenge which runs right through to 30 July. Even though the challenge has now started it is not too late for people to sign up and get involved.
The aim of this year’s challenge is to ‘collect’ all 30 countries taking part in this summer’s championships, which take place in London, over the eight weeks by having a go at a variety of challenges including swimming, running, walking and cycling. People are encouraged to take part no matter what they feel their abilities and fitness levels are.
Chris Williams, Wiltshire Council portfolio holder for communities, said, “We can’t wait to hear how people get on in this year’s Big Pledge challenge and we’re sure we’ll see some inspirational stories, just like in previous years.
“We want people across the county to get more active and if they increase their activity levels it will make a really positive difference to their health and wellbeing.
“There is something for everyone so all we ask is that people give the challenge a go and see what they can achieve.”
To sign up to this year’s challenge people should visit www.wiltshire.gov.uk/big pledge, where they will also see stories from people who have previously taken part.
The challenge is for people of all ages and abilities from those who are new to exercise and who just wish to set some walking goals, through to those who want to push themselves in multiple sports events. The Big Pledge is a fun way for everyone to become more active either individually, or as part of a group of friends.
