Children from Redwood Class (Years 5/6) of Chapmanslade School have been working towards an African production with other village schools, as part of the Small Schools Music Festival.
They have been taking part in workshops with the African dance and drama group Siyaya, who are regulars at WOMAD. Their hard work culminated in a large production staged at the Wiltshire Music Centre in Bradford-on-Avon on Friday 11th July.
All the children danced and sang, and some children from Chapmanslade played instruments to accompany the finale, ‘Joy’.
Andrea McCall, on behalf of Chapmanslade Primary School said, “We had May on viola, Holly and Sybilla on recorders, Will on bass, Pia on keyboard and Edward brought the house down on drums. He was even given a solo and took a bow with Siyaya at the end. Everyone had a fabulous time enjoying the spectacle that Siyaya put on with the whole ensemble.”
