FRIENDS, family, and villagers have all helped celebrate Glee Baron’s 100th birthday.
The milestone was celebrated with a week of celebrations and a card from the Queen.
Glee, a popular resident who has lived in Chapmanslade for over 50 years, attended a special ‘Songs of Praise’ service at the parish church of St Philip and St James’ on Sunday 6th January, where friends and family joined her in singing her favourite hymns. Another highlight of the week’s celebrations around her birthday last Tuesday, was when family members travelled from all over the world to join her party.
Glee was born on 8th January 1913 in Hastings. She is the widow of a former vicar of Keevil, and worked as a district nurse and midwife. She is the mother of four children, seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. One of the presents she received from a family member was a specially compiled book, titled “100 years of Glee”, filled with photos and information of her extensive family tree.
When asked what the secret of living to 100 is, Glee said, “Just get on with it!” She added, “I’ve been very lucky, particularly with good health, a lovely husband, and the support of my family.”
