STAFF at Morrisons in Westbury are raising hundreds of pounds for charity this month as they get set to take part in a muddy obstacle course and to hold a tombola this weekend.
Personnel manager Rachel Beanland has rallied a team of 38 friends and family to run in Bath’s ‘Pretty Muddy 5k’ obstacle race for Cancer Research UK next month.
Rachel, who lives in Chippenham, fought breast cancer last year and lost her mum to the same disease. She already raised over £750 of her £500 target.
Rachel said, “Last year was the scariest and saddest year of my life and I want to do my bit to help prevent others having to go through what I and my wonderful family and supportive friends have gone through in the past 12 months.
“I’ve come through the other side now and I’m all clear but my mum and many other people are not so lucky. Please join me, my wonderful sister Helen and my lovely group friends ‘the roses group’ to make sure everyone comes through the other side.”
Staff at Morrisons are supporting their colleague by collecting sponsorship money and donating for costumes for the race.
Co-worker Lisa Litterick said, “Rachel is a fundamental part of the local community and we encourage anyone who can to sponsor the team and contribute to such an amazing charity and an inspirational person.”

The Westbury store is also raising money for the Sue Ryder charity this month, with a tombola for staff and customers this Saturday, 27th August.
The tombola will take place from 10am to 2pm and staff hope to raise £250.
Lisa Litterick said, “Our customers are always very supportive of our fundraising events and we hope they will enjoy this one, too. The Morrisons Foundation will match all the money we raise from the challenge, so we’re hoping it will be a success and, of course, great fun!”
